GenExpand (BETA) Tips

Okay, d’you see the photo of horses below. Well, the photo labeled BEFORE was taken in a portrait format, hence cropping the background and parts of the horses.

Now, the image labeled AFTER demonstrates how GenExpand is capable of extending the images ratio while filling-in the missing parts of your composition.

How cool is that…

Using GenExpand
for the first time

So, excited to give GenExpand a try, I had just the photo for putting it to the test. An image of a dragon fly with a cropped tail and wing.

Now, while GenExpand handled generating the missing part of the wing, it did take a few runs too many in getting the tail right.

Although not completely satisfied with the close-up quality of the generated rendering of the wing. GenExpand, in this case, did a good job of at least providing a result which was usable and can always be enhanced using other Luminar Neo tools.

Tends to work nicely with portraits

However, still eager to test the value this tool can offer, I thought we’d try a more appropriate photo, something of a more common nature, like a portrait.  I’m almost certain that we’ve all suffered an issue with a cropped part of a limb, hair, or even background.

So here goes;

Note how GenExpand completes the cropped part of the arm of the subject in this portrait photo, as well as the foliage background.

This allows for comfortable placement of the typography.

From this brief dabble with GenExpand it’s clear to see how useful this tool can be for not just extending the composition of your photos, but also for those graphic design projects where the need for applying typography or other graphical elements to an image is required.
