What is copyright?

Copyright not to be mistaken for Copywrite.

Copyright concerns ownership of  the rights of intellectual property; a ‘law’ that protects the creative works of the originator from unauthorised copying.

In theory, any completed artistic work is immediately subject to copyright. However, proving authenticity can be difficult without proof of inception. This is why the simple practice of posting a letter to yourself, with proof of the copyrighted material inside an unopened envelope has come about.
